Hemorrhoids: The taboo topic through which your body is desperately trying to talk to you
Hardly anyone talks about it openly – and yet so many people are affected: hemorrhoids. Most of the time, the conversation revolves around pain, ointments and surgery. But from my point of view, hemorrhoids are far more than a “local problem at the anus”. They are a very clear signal from your body: “Stop, I’m too acidic. Please change something.”
Why hemorrhoids are more than “just down there”
Anatomically speaking, hemorrhoids are venous vascular cushions in the area of the rectum that every human being has – they are part of the natural closure mechanism. They only become problematic when these vessels dilate, become inflamed, swell or even start to bleed. From my holistic, alkaline perspective, this is not a coincidence, but an expression of the fact that your body is looking for a vent.
When the blood is heavily loaded with acids and metabolic waste products over a longer period of time, your organism has to get creative. It tries to keep the blood in the core area stable – because the blood itself is only allowed to fluctuate within a very narrow, slightly alkaline range. And when the usual buffering mechanisms are overloaded, your body starts looking for “emergency storage places”.
The venous outlet as a last vent – what your body is really doing here
In this logic, I see the venous plexus and hemorrhoids as a kind of last biological vent. Your body literally opens up this area in order to temporarily “store” acids and burdening substances when the inside is already overcrowded. It’s as if your system is saying: “I can’t take this anymore, I need space – I’m going to park something here until you give me minerals and relief again.”
If this goes on for a longer period of time and acids keep coming in, the pressure in these vessels can become so great that they strongly dilate, become inflamed and, in the extreme, tear – then you get bleeding from the anus. That looks dramatic, but in this perspective it is the expression of a body that is trying, right up to the very last moment, to protect you and maintain the inner milieu.
The good news: If you start to eat more mineral-rich and alkaline, relieve your body and give it what it really needs, hemorrhoids can, from this perspective, calm down again. Your system no longer has to “store” so much externally because the acid–base situation is easing.
The three major sources of acid: 70 / 15 / 15
Many people only look at food and drink when they think about over-acidity. But from my experience, that’s only part of the truth. I like to work with a simple model:
- 70% of acidity arises from thoughts, feelings and stress – from worries, pressure, fears, anger, inner conflicts and the constant need to “keep functioning”.
- 15% comes from nutrition – highly processed foods, sugar, white flour, soft drinks, alcohol, too much animal protein etc.
- 15% is generated through sport and movement – through normal muscle metabolism, especially when the body is not sufficiently supplied with minerals.
The interesting part: Many people change their diet a little, maybe cut out sugar or coffee – and then wonder why their situation hardly improves. If there is still high stress, self-criticism and permanent tension on the inside, the biggest source of acidity remains. Your body cannot truly move into regeneration if your nervous system is in permanent alarm mode.
Hemorrhoids in pregnancy – a particularly important signal
During pregnancy, hemorrhoids appear for the first time in many women or become significantly worse. There are several reasons for this: blood volume increases, the uterus presses on the pelvic veins, the need for minerals rises massively – and at the same time the emotional system is under strong pressure. From an alkaline point of view, this is a very important warning signal.
When hemorrhoids appear during this phase, I read this as a message from your body: “Please supply me and your baby better with minerals. Please relieve me. Please invite more rest and alkalinity into your life.” Instead of just “getting rid of” hemorrhoids, it is worth taking a closer look: How acid-forming is your everyday life? How much are you living in fear, stress or overwhelm? How mineral-rich, natural and alkaline is your diet really?
What you can concretely do when hemorrhoids show up
Of course, this text does not replace a medical check – especially in the case of acute bleeding, you should always have it examined by a doctor. At the same time, you can do a lot yourself to support your body and address the acidity issue at its root.
1. Mineral-rich, alkaline nutrition
- Integrate more vegetables, herbs, salads, green smoothies and alkaline foods into your daily routine.
- Pay attention to high-quality minerals that support your buffering capacity.
- Reduce heavily processed, sugary and strongly acid-forming foods.
2. Mental de-acidification – taking stress seriously as a source of acid
- Practice more conscious “thought hygiene”: less brooding, more mindfulness.
- Handle stress differently: schedule breaks, sleep and real downtime.
- Use conversations, coaching or other tools to resolve inner conflicts.
3. Alkaline support through the skin
- Alkaline full baths or sitz baths can help your body to excrete acids via the skin.
- In an alkaline bath your body is allowed to let go – not only physically, but often emotionally as well.
- Especially if you sit a lot or experience pressure in the pelvic area, this can be a huge relief.
Your body is not your enemy – it is your ally
I know hemorrhoids can hurt, feel uncomfortable and be embarrassing. But from my point of view, they are not a “fault” or a “defect”, but a courageous signal from your body: “Please look. Please change something. Please treat me in a more alkaline, loving and conscious way again.”
If you take this signal seriously, it can become a turning point. You start paying more attention to your food, observing your thoughts, reducing your stress and giving your body space to regenerate. Hemorrhoids then become – paradoxical as it may sound – the starting point for a healthier, more alkaline life.
Invitation: Back to alkalinity – back to yourself
If you have hemorrhoids, see them as an invitation, not as a punishment. An invitation to eat more alkaline again, to supply yourself better with minerals, to drink more water, to slow your everyday life down and to listen to your body. Your body is not fighting against you – it is fighting for you.
And if you feel that you long for a break from everyday life, from heaviness and from the constant “it has to go on”, then you are allowed to give yourself something bigger: a time-out for body, mind and soul.
Maybe right now is the moment to book a flight, come to us on Koh Phangan and, in our specially created alkaline bathhouse, literally bathe yourself out. In warm, alkaline water, in a protected space where you don’t have to function – you can simply be.
We would be very happy to welcome you here – with everything you are currently going through. And maybe then your hemorrhoids will no longer only be a painful topic, but the beginning of a new, more alkaline relationship with yourself.
With much love
Gunther
